Precision is the gateway to heaven. Likewise, vagueness is the gateway to hell. Cutting corners and accepting a merely "good enough" job, will, indeed, land us in hell. They have done so already...
With precision comes the understanding that a difference of one unit of measurement, be it a degree Fahrenheit of temperature, a millionth of an inch, a part per million (ppm) of concentration, or anything else, does matter. How much such a different matters to the continuation of life on Earth, depends on the specific situation at hand. Every form of life has its limitations. As such, for every form of life, there comes a point where the smallest difference in circumstances does mean the difference between survival and death. For example. the difference between 32 and 33-degrees Fahrenheit means the difference between whether water will freeze or not. For many plants, this difference in 1 degree of temperature means the difference between survival and death.
For humans, one of the best ways to learn about precision is by building tools which have very tight tolerances. For example, any measurement device which can measure to .001-inches or smaller (e.g. vernier calipers, micrometer, height gage) depends on a granite surface plate which is as close to completely flat as possible. This flat surface serves as a reference during the production of the tool's own flat surfaces. The perfection of these surfaces is essential to making accurate measurements. A person who has never dealt with this level of precision before might wonder why accurately measuring such a small area as .001-inch matters. “So what if the length of that part is .050-inches or .051-inches-- what difference does it make?” The proper response to such a person, is that they surely have never contributed to building measurement devices, airplanes, automobiles, machine tools, nor medical devices before, and that is why they don't understand why such a difference matters.
"The real difference is that in a pure and focused society, content and certain of their purpose for existence, EVERYONE has this precision based philosophy inherent to their base intentions. In that type of mind frame, there is no such thing as 'good enough.' Higher platforms can always be reached, and THAT is the motivation. I'm not talking about running faster, making the most money, driving the nicest car, or fucking the most people. Those types of goals require precision to the application of methods for acquiring that junk, but everything is selfish. Imagine a society where everyone has a precision based philosophy in their base intentions, and the goal is to create the most perfect environment for all. Indeed, absolute perfection is impossible, as previously explained, but that shouldn't be motivation to stop trying. There are limits to not caring about precision. It's called hell. A destination where nobody cares about striving for precision, and everyone is just out for themselves. The opposite is called heaven, and as long as the universe is functioning, there is no upper limit."
